Veronika Čechmánková is an intermedia artist working mainly with photography, video and installation. Her work focuses on the transformations of symbols and traditions over time, their transformations and possible meanings for the present. She selects visual and cultural elements from the past and explores their validity and possibilities, which she plays out in the current context. Her work combines a distinctive visual language with storytelling and often focuses on the relationship between man and nature or socio-cultural issues in contemporary society. She graduated from the Photography and New Media Studio at FAMU. Her work has been exhibited at galleries such as FUTURA Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague, Studio Vortex in Arles and the BF Artist Film Festival in London. During her studies, she participated in residencies at Casa Lü in Mexico City, the Czech Center in Paris, Joya: AiR Asociación de Arte y Ecología Vélez-Blanco or Residence Studio Vortex, leader Antoine d'Agatha in Arles. In 2023, Veronika was nominated by the Fotograf Zone under the Future Photography platform in Amsterdam. In the same year, she was also nominated for the Czech Grand Design in the category Photographer of the Year.
She has been working at FAMU – the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague – since 2022 as an assistant to the head of the photography department also spent one year as an assistant at the Imaginative Photography Studio. Since 2024, Čechmánková has been co-head of the Applied Photography Studio at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem.
